The Sonic Training Academy is proud to introduce the newly refurbished training laboratory at the Royal Free Hospital.
Academy training sessions for their 16 apprentice students kicked off to a fantastic start in October 2023.
The first session involved a fun icebreaker activity, allowing the trainees to introduce themselves and share a fun fact.
Deputy Training Academy Manager, Tomi Fadairo, presented an introductory workshop on Laboratory Health and Safety, teaching about hazards, risks, legislations, and the importance of personal protective equipment.
Roshni Popat, Training Academy Manager, delivered a session on the Introduction of the Quality Management System, discussing the importance of accreditation, quality assurance, quality controls, and quality improvement within the laboratory.
Luis Hakrama, a first-year student of the Training Academy apprenticeship, shared his experience.
“The Royal Free training laboratory sessions are a great way to meet the other students and learn skills together that can be applied to our laboratory roles. The practical element of these sessions is fun, engaging and helps to link with the theoretical knowledge we are learning at university.”
Workshops for training and competencies, stages/variables of laboratory analysis, research, innovation, and development will be taking place over the next few months at the training facility, with further practical laboratory skills workshops such as pipetting techniques and microscopy planned for the new year.
Future considerations will also include delivering these sessions to the wider workforce, in line with learning and development needs for all staff within Sonic Healthcare UK. Watch this space!
